Whānau can complete the programme as a family – a joint effort, and in that way tamariki can contribute in areas where they are confident and have more parental involvement with other areas. It is up to the whānau to decide what works best for them.

The programme itself can be shaped to fit individual circumstances and areas of interest, as well as adapted for school settings. Schools can opt to have teachers complete the programme as professional development, facilitate the programme with particular classes, or offer it to those students who might be interested. Tamariki can work in pairs or groups as long as the work reflects fair input and effort given the students age and ability.

Kahukura is available in English or te reo Māori, enabling Māori medium schools and whānau wanting to complete the programme in te reo Māori to do so.

We encourage whānau to decide what is best for them and to have discussions with their school about how they might jointly support their tamariki to particpate in Kahukura.
